MOT Testing Service sign-in

DVSA announced that physical security cards would stop working for MOT Testing Service (MTS) sign-in from 25 June 2026. Users signing in by email must authenticate at each sign-in, rather than once a day.

The notice recommends an authentication app as the most secure sign-in option. It says users should check in “Your profile” that their MTS email address is one only they can access. If it was not updated before 25 June, the notice warns that the user could be locked out and need to contact DVSA to reclaim the account.

With an authentication app, the system treats the device as trusted for that session, so users usually need to authenticate only once rather than being asked again later that day. The notice also advises keeping the associated email account secure.

Fast-track disciplinary reviews

DVSA announced that, from 1 July 2026, the fast-track process would include two shortcomings where 100 points is the appropriate outcome: a vehicle and/or tester not being on the premises, and abuse or misuse of the MTS free-text options. It also names MOT6D cases for classes 4, 5 or 7 where the outcome is 80 points for missed defects, or a combination of missed defects and procedural errors.

The existing requirements continue to apply: both the authorised examiner and tester must agree the shortcoming occurred and be content to use the process; the authorised examiner or vehicle testing station, and the tester, must have no preceding disciplinary cases in the previous five years. The notice gives the announced start date, but does not confirm implementation since then.
